Restaurants & Eateries
The Smith House
Dahlonega’s most beloved institution since 1922. The Smith House is famous for its all-you-can-eat family-style Southern meals served around communal tables — platters of fried chicken, pork roast, ham, biscuits, and dozens of rotating vegetable sides arrive in a steady stream until you call for mercy. The historic building dates to the gold rush era and sits atop a known vein of gold; the family has declined to mine it, preferring to keep the inn and restaurant intact for generations of visitors.
Open for lunch on weekends and dinner Thursday through Sunday, The Smith House is a genuine Dahlonega institution. Reservations are strongly recommended on fall weekends during leaf season. The inn portion offers overnight lodging in period-appropriate rooms.

Bars, Wine Bars & Craft Beverages
Dahlonega Brewing Company
Dahlonega’s craft beer destination, the Dahlonega Brewing Company produces small-batch ales, lagers, and seasonal specialties using mountain water drawn from the Blue Ridge highlands. The taproom — a warm, wood-paneled space with exposed beams and a long bar — features rotating taps of their house-brewed beers alongside guest taps from regional Georgia craft breweries. Food trucks typically park outside on weekends, and the patio is a lively gathering spot throughout the warmer months.
Notable house beers include their flagship Gold Rush Amber Ale, a Dahlonega Mountain Stout favored during fall and winter, and rotating seasonal IPAs featuring locally foraged botanicals. Brewery tours are available on select weekends.
Encore Wine Bar
A sophisticated wine bar in the heart of downtown Dahlonega, Encore curates an extensive list of North Georgia wines alongside a global selection. The intimate setting makes it ideal for wine exploration — the knowledgeable staff are adept at guiding visitors through the nuances of Georgia varietals like Viognier, Touriga Nacional, and the increasingly celebrated North Georgia Cabernet Franc. Small plates of cheese, charcuterie, and house-made bites complement the wine program.
Fireleaf Distillery
One of the most interesting newer additions to Dahlonega’s beverage scene, Fireleaf Distillery produces small-batch whiskey, gin, and seasonal spirits using locally sourced grains and botanicals. Distillery tours are available by appointment and provide a fascinating look at the traditional craft of spirit-making. The tasting room pours flights of their current production alongside specialty cocktails crafted from house-made spirits.
Dining by the Season
Dahlonega’s dining scene shifts pleasantly with the seasons. Spring brings fresh produce from surrounding farms — asparagus, morel mushrooms, and ramps appear on menus throughout April and May. Summer offers tomatoes, sweet corn, and peaches that showcase North Georgia’s agricultural abundance. Fall is the most celebrated season in Dahlonega, when the leaf season brings peak visitor traffic and restaurants compete to offer the warmest, most evocative mountain dining experiences — apple cider, butternut squash soups, braised meats, and fire-pit cocktails.
Winter in Dahlonega is underrated for dining. The crowds thin, the atmosphere becomes more intimate, and many of the town’s best restaurants shift to richer, heartier menus. The winery restaurants in particular are exceptional in the winter months — a warm fire, an excellent bottle of North Georgia Cabernet Franc, and views of the misty mountain ridgelines create a genuinely memorable experience.
Wild ramps, morel mushrooms, fresh trout, early-season wines. The Public Square’s outdoor patios reopen; the energy of the town returns.
Farm-fresh tomatoes, peaches, and corn. Evening dining on winery terraces. Cool mountain breezes make outdoor seating comfortable even in July.
Peak dining season. Apple cider cocktails, root vegetable dishes, hearty braises. Every restaurant fills; reservations are essential September through November.
Intimate, unhurried dining. Rich soups, braised meats, warming fireside meals. The most rewarding time to dine at the winery restaurants.
Farm Stands & Local Markets
Dahlonega’s agricultural heritage extends beyond restaurants to a network of farm stands, u-pick orchards, and a beloved farmers market. The Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Farmers Market operates on Saturday mornings in the warmer months on the Public Square, bringing together local vegetable farmers, flower growers, egg producers, honey makers, artisan bakers, and specialty food vendors.
Several farms in the surrounding countryside welcome visitors to pick their own apples, strawberries, or pumpkins depending on the season. Georgia gold apples are a particular specialty of the Dahlonega area, and the local orchards typically open for fall u-pick weekends from late September through October.
