This year’s “Oscars of watchmaking” winners have been selected, showcasing a variety of watches celebrated for their superior engineering and attractive design.
An industry panel of judges picked out the finest timepieces across fifteen categories, which ranged from sports to jewellery and travel time watches. These prestigious awards were given out by the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in Geneva earlier this month.
The most coveted prize, the Aiguille d’Or Grand Prix for the best world’s watch, was awarded to the Chronomètre Ferdinand Berthoud FB 1, a creation from Ferdinand Berthoud.
This exclusive timepiece, made from white gold and titanium, is powered by a meticulously hand-wound movement comprised of over 1,120 components. With a retail price of more than $200,000, it features an exquisite leather strap.
The Public Prize, an award chosen through international online votes and votes from select worldwide watch exhibitions, was won by a watch from Czapek Genève’s collection, the 33 bis Quai des Bergues.
Before marking the end of their journey at the Dubai Watch Week on November 15, the winning pieces were showcased in Seoul, Rome and Geneva.
A multitude of luxury watch brands including Audemars Piguet, Montblanc, MB&F, Piaget, TAG Heuer and Tudor, as well as Chanel, Eberhard & Co, Fabergé and Grönefeld, received recognition and were honoured by this year’s international jury comprised of 27 members.
