This feature lets anyone in a Discord voice chat tune in to their preferred live and local radio stations or podcasts on the platform, essentially transforming any user into a DJ in one of the most frequented online gathering places at the click of an icon.

In an interview with Fox News, TuneIn’s CEO, Rich Stern, simplifies the servicing. He mentions that users will encounter a rocket ship icon in any voice chat on the Discord platform. Clicking the icon will let you access the Tunein activity, comprising more than a hundred thousand radio stations and five million podcasts.

The Catch: Shared Control

What makes the feature even cooler is that it’s shared – the initial user taking up the DJ’s role can bestow the controls to any other participant in the voice chat. But that’s not all to TuneIn’s plans for integration. Stern elaborates, “We’ve designed a technology and platform that ensures seamless functioning behind the scenes for our partners. Hence, anticipate more communities like Discord and more apps similar to Discord incorporating the radio experience.”
