Boston Dynamics’ All-Electric Atlas Unveiled

After bidding goodbye to the hydraulic Atlas, Boston Dynamics introduced its successor — the fully electric Atlas, designed for diverse real-world applications. With a line-up of Spot, Stretch, and now the electric Atlas, the Massachusetts-based robotics company is leading the charge to shape the future of commercial applications.

Atlas 2.0 stands out as superior to its predecessors, boasting enhanced strength and versatility. Besides lifting and managing heavy, irregular objects, the new Atlas showcases more advanced capabilities. Boston Dynamics is also looking into diverse gripper options to satisfy the varying manipulation needs of commercial environments. In their short teaser video, the robot elegantly gets up from the floor and walks.

As a representation of years of innovation and ingenuity, the new electric Atlas has the power to perform tasks that are otherwise dull and dangerous for human workers. Boston Dynamics has planned to sell the technologically advanced humanoid robot, although the price has not been revealed yet. Moreover, Hyundai’s next-generation factories will be the first to witness its capabilities in action.

The company also asks the public about the safety measures that should be implemented to ensure new robotics technologies like the electric Atlas augment, rather than replace, human labor.
