Travis Kelce Faces Unfavorable Reception at Western Conference Finals
Kansas City Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce, found himself at the receiving end of boos during Sunday’s Western Conference finals of an NBA game. Predominantly basketball fans, spectators booed Kelce when he was shown on the jumbotron attending the game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
Kelce Reflects on Reception with Brother on Podcast
A three-time Super Bowl champion, Kelce, while co-hosting a podcast episode of “New Heights” with his brother and retired Eagles center, Jason Kelce, discussed the incident. Responding to his brother’s query about the disapproving reception at the game, Kelce nonchalantly remarked, “Yeah, I got booed twice, it’s whatever.” The Chiefs star player also tried to make sense of the experience, stating, “Maybe they just don’t like the Chiefs. I don’t know.”
Seated with Kelce at the game were his teammate, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and Mahomes’ wife, Brittany.
Kelce Unaware of Being Featured on Jumbotron
Kelce revealed during the “New Heights” podcast that he did not initially realize he was being displayed on the jumbotron until Mahomes informed him. He was halfway through taking a selfie with fans when Mahomes tapped him and brought the jumbotron to his attention. Kelce humorously admitted, “And I heard all the boos and I was like, ‘Oh shit, I’m getting booed!’ I appreciated the warm welcome, Dallas.”
Kelce’s experience quickly evolved as soon as Mahomes, a Texas native, was displayed on the screen. Excellent reception from the crowd was given to Mahomes, deemed the “hometown kid” and “best football player in the world” by Kelce.
