Tom Brady was prepared to hear all sorts of jokes about his life during his live Netflix roast on Sunday night, even those regarding his relationship with his wife, Gisele Bündchen. But the moment comedian Jeff Ross made a joke about Robert Kraft, the New England Patriots owner, Brady quickly put an end to it.
Ross’s joke referenced Brady’s experience of being picked 199th overall in the NFL Draft and walking into Kraft’s office with a message – ‘I’m the best decision your organization has ever made’. But Ross continued the joke further by asking, ‘Would you like a massage?’, causing a mixture of laughter and groans from the audience at the Los Angeles Forum.
This was because Kraft had previously been caught up in a scandal in 2019 involving massage parlors, with secret videos allegedly showing him and other men engaged in paid sex acts. Kraft, however, entered a not guilty plea to the charge, apologized publicly in March 2019 and was acquitted of a sex solicitation charge the following year.
The moment Ross made the joke, Brady turned to him and whispered something, caught by the microphone: ‘Don’t say that stuff again.’ Brady, who was clearly aware that uncomfortable topics might arise during the roast, seemingly wanted the humor to focus on him, not the past legal issues of his ex-boss.
