Josef Newgarden Triumphs Again at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway
After an intense race, Josef Newgarden emerged triumphant for the second consecutive year at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, overtaking Pato O’Ward during the final lap to clinch the illustrious Indy 500 trophy.
Following his previous win in the 2023 Indy 500, Newgarden has now ascended to the exceptional group of only six drivers who have reigned successively in the 200-lap contest’s history. The last wearer of this unique crown was Helio Castroneves in 2001 and 2002.

Late Game Strategy
Having refueled and replaced his tyres in his final pit stop on lap 172, O’Ward was better equipped for the last stages than Newgarden, who pitted three laps earlier.
O’Ward took the lead in the final lap, but a patient Newgarden lurked within striking distance. Eventually, Newgarden made his move, accelerating to the right side of O’Ward and retook the lead in a defining moment of the race.
After this decisive move, Newgarden increased his speed, left the competition behind and cruised over the finish line, replete with joy and pride at once again securing the sought-after victory.
Celebrations and Consolations
No sooner had the much-anticipated race concluded than the triumphant Newgarden plunged into the crowd to mark the momentous victory with his adoring fans.
As Newgarden reveled in his win, a crestfallen O’Ward was comforted by his Arrow McLaren team in the pits. The 25-year-old Mexican driver, who had come tantalizingly close to triumph in his two previous outings at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, appeared visibly shattered.
Other Noteworthy Finishes
As the race unfolded, Newgarden, who started in third place, alongside Team Penske teammates Scott McLaughlin and Will Power in the front row, emerged victorious. O’Ward, who started in eighth, finished second, while Sean Dixon, who began in 21st place, claimed third. Rossi and Alex Palou completed the top five.
Newgarden Revels in Another Victory
Finally, Newgarden, exultant with another Indy 500 win, joined his team in victory lane, savoring the traditional milk jug in celebration.
