Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, Shaquille O’Neal has been forthright about the downfall of his marriage to Shaunie Nelson, now known as Shaunie Henderson, in recent times. In her book, “Undefeated: Changing the Rules and Winning on My Own Terms,” Nelson provides her perspective on the breakdown of their marriage.
Nelson enjoyed motherhood and family life in the early years of their marriage but noted, through a metaphor about illness, that the marriage was gradually deteriorating. She mentioned O’Neal’s frequent disappearances and expressed suspicions about his activities during those periods.
She revealed how moving to Miami intensified her suspicions, hearing rumors of O’Neal owning a condo in Miami Beach. The couple officially divorced in 2011.
Reflecting on their relationship in 2021, O’Neal admitted to making mistakes with Nelson and his former partner, Arnetta Yardbourgh. He appreciated the women for forgiving him, maintaining a cordial relationship now.
Further expressing his regret, O’Neal described himself as a “d—head” while married to Henderson in 2022. He confessed to leading a double life and acknowledged his contributions to their marriage’s failure.
