The New York Supreme Court’s Appellate Division rejected former President Donald Trump’s appeal to lift a gag order preventing him from speaking about his criminal case. The court upheld the order, citing the need to protect the fair administration of justice and prevent intimidation and harm to those involved in the case. Trump’s legal team can now appeal to the New York Court of Appeals.
Despite Trump and his allies arguing the order is unconstitutional, the court fined Trump $10,000 for violating it by making public statements about the case. Judge Juan Merchan warned that further violations could result in jail time for Trump. Trump has vowed to protect the Constitution and is prepared to make sacrifices to defend his First Amendment rights, despite the court’s decision.
