Raising children indeed takes a village and becomes clear when you become a mother. Being a mother at 17 is a journey filled with fears, uncertainties and a whirlwind of emotions. I was fortunate to have my own mother standing strong beside me in my darkest moments, offering me the support and strength I needed.
When I revealed my pregnancy to her, she suppressed her personal emotions, putting mine first and assuring me of her unwavering presence. Navigating the challenges of teenage pregnancy is daunting, filled with overwhelming emotions and harsh societal judgments. But my mom offered me a beacon of hope and reassurance, standing by my side amid this uncertainty.
Throughout the journey, her support remained steadfast. While being a teenage mom comes with its own set of obstacles, with her continuous encouragement, I was able to dream big and ultimately turn these dreams into my reality. Her belief in me never wavered, even when I doubted myself. She proved to be my confidante, my rock, and my source of inspiration.
Her love is the foundation of my resilience, without judgement and with full acceptance. Despite the odds, she instilled the belief in me that I could achieve what I set my mind to, encouraging me to work harder for it, and with her encouragement, I embarked on unexpected, life-altering journeys.
The fact remains that had she not been able to conceal her own insecurities during my early pregnancy days, my life could have taken a different turn. Reflecting on my life, her unwavering and unconditional love played a crucial role in shaping me into who I am today. She stood by me as a silent guardian, her support proving to be an essential element in human connection.
I had to navigate complex situations while overcoming emotional challenges, a task equivalent to juggling flaming swords. But the beauty of it all lies in being a pillar of support, without carrying the burdensome weight of judgement. It is not about ‘fixing’ or ‘analyzing’; it’s about holding someone’s hand through a storm. The world may scream for solutions and explanations, but sometimes, all we need to do is be a steady lighthouse for someone amid choppy waters. This was my mother’s priceless gift to me.
