The US federal government is suing Dr. Sherri Tenpenny, an Ohio osteopath known for her unscientific claims about COVID-19 vaccines, for unpaid federal taxes and late fees amounting to close to $650,000. The lawsuit alleges that Tenpenny, who initially gained national attention for her false assertions that COVID-19 vaccines could cause magnetism in humans, failed to pay her taxes in 2001, 2012, and 2013.

Despite setting up payment plans, Tenpenny has been unable to complete her tax payments for those years. The stringent doctor, who has been practising medicine in Ohio since 1984, argues that the lawsuit is a form of harassment by the IRS, which has been targeting her for 23 years.

Tenpenny continues to attract public attention for her controversial stands on public health mandates. She has campaigned against mask requirements and vaccination obligations during the COVID-19 pandemic, making unfounded claims that vaccines could link individuals to cell towers and disrupt women’s menstrual cycles. This led to approximately 350 complaints about the doctor’s conduct with the medical board.

The Ohio doctor stood her ground, refusing to meet with the investigators or respond to their written queries. She even declined to obey a subpoena compelling her to attend a deposition meeting. On account of her non-compliance, Tenpenny’s license was suspended in August 2023. However, in April, favoring her case, the Ohio State Medical Board voted to have her license reinstated, provided she paid a $3,000 fine.
