Pinetree Recreation Center: A Peek into the New Entertainment Hub
Pinetree Recreation Center unveiled its doors last Friday for an initial public tour to local figures, creating quite a stir in the community. Valued at a whopping $12.9 million, this establishment plans to orchestrate an official opening event, coupled with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 25.
Several community stakeholders including Dahlonega City Council members, Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners, affiliates of the University of North Georgia, Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard, and influential personalities from the adjacent counties of White County and Union County were privy to this early tour of the Pinetree Recreation Center.
Chris Dockery, the Chairman of the Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners explained that the tour aimed at giving a “first glance” to a select group of community pioneers instrumental in the project. The proud host added, “We also have some dignitaries from our surrounding counties, White County and Union County, just to brag a little bit.”
The extensive range of amenities at the new recreation center certainly grants bragging rights.
Features of the Pinetree Recreation Center
- A mammoth-sized 26,000 square foot gymnasium with two full-size basketball courts, multifunctional for four indoor pickleball courts or two volleyball courts.
- Six illuminated outdoor pickleball courts.
- An outdoor swimming pool with eight lanes, designed for competition.
- A waterpark outside featuring two slides, a lazy river, aquatic playground and sprinkler pad.
- Offers meeting/conference room, two party rooms and also welcomes rentals request for sizable events.
‘Creating New Memories’
Gainesville-based Carroll Daniel Construction received accolades for their timely and economic completion of the project. “Carroll Daniel built a building that will last for future generations on time and on budget,” remarked Lumpkin County manager Alan Ours.
Brandon Harmon, a project executive from Carroll Daniel Construction, expressed gratitude towards the board of commissioners for entrusting them with the recreation center project. Harmon stressed, “We’re committed to delivering quality projects that withstand the test of time.”
Ours envisions the center as a space where Lumpkin County residents will create memorable experiences over time.
On the Budget Matter
Although excluded from having an indoor swimming pool, the outdoor pool has been specifically structured so that a pool covering can be equipped in the ensuing seasons, disclosed County Commissioner Bobby Mayfield.
“It was constructed in a way that we can add a pool enclosure to make it an indoor pool area during winter time,” stated Mayfield. “The enclosures are pricey, so it couldn’t fit into our budget for the project. However, there’s a possibility for one to be quickly installed in the future if we manage to secure the funds for it.”
Though initially planned as an indoor aquatic center, the board of commissioners decided against it in favor of a recreation center furnished with water features.
“An aquatic center would have been wonderful,” Ours admitted. “What we have instead, is a facility that will cater to the community’s needs more effectively than an aquatic center. Once you visit the facility, I believe you’ll concur that the board of commissioners made the right decision.”
