The home pickling trend has stepped up a notch with food enthusiasts fermenting their cucumbers in sodas. One Mississippi mother’s unique order at a Sonic Drive-In, a large Dr. Pepper soda with pickles, has triggered mixed responses on social media. The off-menu item, introduced by her 25-year-old daughter, was videotaped by the mother, known as @MississippiMemaw, and has already garnered 3.4 million views.
When Memaw made her unusual order, the Sonic Drive-In employee complied without objection, indicating that such a request was not unusual. The pickle-infused Dr. Pepper drink went on to strike a chord with many viewers, with some even ordering it at their local outlets and sharing positive reviews online.
There were, however, some variations suggested by viewers, such as a “Witch Doctor” drink from Whataburger comprising a mix of all the sodas with a pickle. Although not all Sonic outlets adhere to the “add pickle to Dr. Pepper” policy, a few innovative fans have found ways around this by ordering pickles on the side and adding them to their soda.
Sonic has been known for experimenting with pickles in the past, as evident from their Pickle Juice Slushie introduced in 2022 that amalgamated the salty flavor of dill pickles with sweet and sour tones.
