Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, is set to make his eleventh trip back to the UK in just over three years this week. This journey to his motherland is to attend a church service in St. Paul’s on May 8 to mark the 10th anniversary of his Invictus Games.
Harry’s trips to the UK usually involve short stays for few specific events, and then immediately returning to the United States. However, this time might be different following the shocking revelation of both his father, King Charles, and sister-in-law, Princess Kate of Wales, battling cancer.
Despite the circumstances, it is doubtful that the Duke will visit his ailing relatives. It is reported that Princess Kate has distanced herself from Harry, and King Charles might not be eager for his son’s visit. This information was revealed by a friend of Prince William and Princess Kate, stating that the couple felt betrayed by Harry’s memoir “Spare” and they are not likely to converse with him during Kate’s vulnerable time.
Furthermore, the King’s schedule during Harry’s visit is speculated to be full, leaving the chances of a father-son meeting doubtful. If they do end up meeting, it is not expected to be a long heart-to-heart given the King’s busy schedule.
Upon his arrival in London, Harry might also not be able to access his former royal residences, and may have to lodge in a hotel due to being stripped of his royal benefits.
Despite the matrimonial bliss and high hopes for the monarchy surrounding his wedding to Meghan Markle six years ago, Harry now navigates a strained relationship with his close relatives and a significantly reduced royal status.
