Presenting the Rubyglow pineapple, an exotic fruit boasting a distinctive pinkish-red hue. This hybrid fruit is a creation of Fresh Del Monte and carries a hefty price tag of $400. According to the company’s website, the name ‘Rubyglow’ was inspired by the ruby gemstone, notable for its rich red color, rarity, and luxurious appeal.
The hybrid fruit possesses a striking red outer shell and a sweet, traditional yellow core. It’s sold without its prickly crown, beautifully boxed in a packaging that opens in an origami-like fashion. The fruit is a result of a 15-year research process in Costa Rica, involving traditional crossbreeding techniques combining a common pineapple with a dark red-purple, or ‘morada’, variety native to Venezuela and Colombia.
Available in limited supply due to its two-year growth period, the fruit is bound to capture the attention of high-end consumers as a luxury, designer item. Previously available only through a waitlist in China since January, the rare exotic fruit has now been launched in the U.S. It is one among the wide variety of pineapples offered by Fresh Del Monte, which includes the Mini Honeyglow and the world’s only pink pineapple, the Pinkglow. Melissa Mackay, Fresh Del Monte’s Vice President of Marketing, North America, hailed Rubyglow as an ultimate exotic fruit offering an exclusive and impressive experience.
