Bear with a Sweet tooth spotted in Los Angeles
A cookie-loving bear has earned a unique nickname – Oreo. This adorable creature has been caught raiding packs of the popular cookie brand at several Los Angeles homes.
The Mischievous Bear named Oreo
On Friday, May 24, a home in Monrovia neighborhood witnessed the bear breaking in and sneaking out with only one piece of loot: a pack of Oreos. The neighbors, amused with this bear’s addiction, aptly named him ‘Oreo’.
ABC 7 obtained a video that clearly shows the bear “peacefully” entering through the window and exiting with the iconic blue package hanging from his mouth.
Oreo’s Encounter with Vina Khoury
The local resident, Vina Khoury, expressed her fear about her close encounter with Oreo to ABC, “I was terrified beyond words. The bear was too close, which is something that’s never happened before.”
In fact, Khoury had an incident in the past involving another bear entering her garage, opening the fridge to successfully steal a chocolate cake.
The Untagged Charismatic Bear
Though the mischievous bear is not tagged, the neighbors are convinced that the repeated raids are all being carried out by one and only – the Oreo bear.
Explaining the concept behind the name, KTLA 5 records Ms. Khoury saying, “That’s exactly why we named him Oreo. He’s not just aimlessly wandering around, he’s deliberately breaking into the houses. This has raised our concerns about keeping windows or backyard doors open now.”
A report by ABC7 suggests that residents are contemplating whether the infamous bear should be trapped and relocated as he has developed a clear inclination towards the cookies, leading to multiple burglaries.
Not All Are Worried About Oreo
While some are worried, others take Oreo’s antics in stride. Neighbor Richard Mosteller shared with KTLA 5, “Bears visit us every Monday. They usually rummage through the trash cans, look for food, but they’re quite harmless.”
As this bear hasn’t shown any signs of aggressive nature, no formal report has been made to the wildlife officials yet by anyone residing in the affected neighborhood.
