Utah has been named the top state to live in the US for the second consecutive year, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 rankings. These rankings are based on eight categories, including health care, education, economy, infrastructure, opportunity, fiscal stability, crime and corrections, and the natural environment.
The state ranked second for education, third for its economy and infrastructure, and sixth for fiscal stability. Governor Spencer Cox acknowledges the state’s diverse economy, scenic landscape, and community-driven residents as key factors in this ranking.
Over 70 metrics, covering everything from employment to internet access, affordability, and public safety, were utilized in evaluating states. Washington, DC, was not included in the assessment.
Utah is increasingly becoming a hotbed for startups and tech entrepreneurs, partly due to a low unemployment rate of 2.8% recorded in March, lower than the nationwide average of 3.8%.
Real estate broker Joel Carson describes Utah as a fantastic place to reside and work, highlighting the appeal of the state’s national parks, specifically Zion National Park. Although median home prices in the state dropped by 2.6% YoY in April, to $604,105, Carson notes that the real estate market is solid, with his company receiving multiple offers for homes in Salt Lake City.
The top ten states in America this year, along with their median home list prices in April, include Utah ($604,105), New Hampshire ($582,000), Nebraska ($359,950), Minnesota ($406,800), Idaho ($573,248), Iowa ($309,225), Virginia ($464,475), Washington ($644,450), Florida ($450,000), and Massachusetts ($799,999).
