Barkley Urges Biden To Pass Leadership Torch

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley has urged President Biden to “pass the torch” ahead of the 2024 presidential elections, following concerns over his mental fitness after a challenging performance in last month’s debate. Barkley also shared his retirement plans from television after the 2024-2025 NBA season and expressed his views on the current political climate during an appearance on CNBC.

“I just feel sadness,” said Barkley at the American Century Championship, a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

Barkley Comments On National Politics

Barkley voiced his admiration and respect for President Biden, but emphasized it was time for the president to pass the leadership torch to a younger generation. “He’s one of the greatest people I’ve been fortunate to be around in my life, but it’s time to pass the torch,” remarked Barkley.

“I would never vote for someone like former President Trump – you should always respect the presidency regardless. I am annoyed with sports teams that refuse to visit the White House based on the President’s political party – that’s just silly. We should always admire the office of the president, no matter who’s occupying it,” said Barkley.

Concerns Over President’s Mental Acuity

Concerns about President Biden’s mental acuity were heightened after his debate with Trump and further escalated after a press conference where Biden made several gaffes. These included him seeming to confuse Vice President Kamala Harris with ex-President Trump and trailing off while rehearsing his thoughts.

Trump vs Biden on The Green

The rivalry between Trump and Biden even extended to the golf course, with Trump challenging Biden to an 18-hole golf match during a rally in Florida. This came after they argued about golf handicaps during their first debate. A Biden spokesperson, however, dismissed Trump’s challenge as “weird antics.”
